Since opening its doors in Lower Lawrenceville late in 2017, Cinderlands Beer Company has made a name for itself, both thanks to their high-quality house-made beers, and their open-concept scratch kitchen. However, Cinderlands is about more than serving up delicious food and quality libations. From day one, they have demonstrated a commitment to bettering Pittsburgh’s environment, economy, and community. This commitment has earned this brew pub a Gold designation with the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant Program.
When you visit Cinderlands, you can look directly into the kitchen and watch the skilled cooking staff prepare your meal from scratch. Their beers are brewed on site along with nitro cold-brewed coffee, and even sparkling water. In addition to the beverages, nearly all of their sauces and condiments are made in house with their beers accenting some for an unexpected and palate pleasing twist.
Cinderlands earned the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant designation by incorporating numerous sustainably focused practices into their operation. Because they brew their own beer, they are left with large amounts of spent grain that they donate to farmers for animal feed. The restaurant also sources the majority of their meat and produce from local and regional farms and suppliers which promotes the local economy and helps to reduce carbon emissions. Cinderlands believes in offering benefits, health and wellness incentives, and a livable wage to their employees which is not standard in the restaurant industry. The restaurant has also installed LED lighting in the dining areas, and has taken steps to limit wastewater during the cleaning of their facility., To learn more about their sustainability efforts, you can view their profile and read Cinderlands complete sustainability designation report.
