Designation Level: Gold

Burgh’ers is a burger joint and brewery that takes pride in its healthy, locally sourced dishes and a kitchen dedicated to the craft of preparing excellent food. Burgh’ers has two locations—one in Lawrenceville, and one in Harmony—and both restaurants have earned the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant Gold designation, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and to the Pittsburgh community.

“Sustainability is the way we live,” said President and Chef Fiore Moletz, who is also the President and Chef at Gold designated Della Terra Italian Bistro. “It’s about taking care of the space you’re in,and making it better than the way you found it. It’s about the food you’re eating being chemical-free and nutrient-rich. It’s about the customer getting a better product and knowing what they’re getting and knowing what they’re putting in their body.”

Both the Lawrenceville and Harmony locations of Burgh’ers offer an eclectic selection of signature burgers, sandwiches and salads, as well as a robust list of custom toppings for building your own burger—including local grass-fed beef, local pickle-brined grilled chicken, and local cage-free eggs. Although they share the same name, both restaurants have slight differences. At the Lawrenceville location, Burgh’ers serves nearly 100% locally made sodas and in Harmony the menu often features exotic local meats, including alpaca, wild boar, rabbit and more.

“One thing that’s important that many people don’t know about us is that Burgh’ers Lawrenceville was built and made from all supplies made in the USA, including a lot of local stuff,” Moletz said. “All of our table tops came from fallen trees in Allegheny and Butler counties. All of our duct work even—everything was made in the USA or reclaimed from Pittsburgh. Even all of our plateware is reused and from donations, keeping them out of the landfill.”

Other sustainability highlights at Burgh’ers include using LED lights, energy efficient appliances, completely eliminating plastic straws, and paying all of the serving staff double the industry standard for starting pay.
