If you love chef showdowns, you have a chance to see one live on March 12, at the Steel Chef Cook Off, a collaboration of Focus on Renewal, Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant program and Ohio Valley hospital. Area teens and local chefs will team up for a culinary showdown hosted by chef Bill Fuller, of Big Burrito Restaurant Group, and to be judged by local celebrity judges. The winners will claim the title of “The Steel Chef.”

Training began in January for the participating teens, who were selected from an after-school program run by Focus on Renewal, a group in Sto-Rox that focuses on community building. Under the tutelage of professional chefs, they learned basic cooking skills, food safety and a few tricks of the trade. Now in teams comprised of two chefs and three or four students, they’ll put that knowledge to work in competition. The chefs include Kevin Sousa, from Superior Motors; Norraset Nareedokmai, from Silk Elephant/Bangkok Balcony; Tom DeGori, from Ohio Valley Hospital; Keyla Nogueira Cook, from Keyla Cooks; Claudy Pierre, from Eminent Hospitality Group; and Jess Rattani, from Jambo Grill/KMSSA/Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
