Located in the heart of the Squirrel Hill commercial district, Bangkok Balcony serves a wide menu of Thai culinary favorites, and offers a fully stocked bar of wine, beer, and cocktails. Since 2017, Bangkok Balcony has also been recognized as a Silver designated Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant, demonstrating a commitment to supporting Pittsburgh’s vibrant communities and healthy environment.
An extensive menu offers traditional Thai dishes as well as inventive specials. The menu offers a wide variety for all culinary and dietary preferences, including freshly prepared meats, seafood and shellfish options, and many vegetarian options, as well. Guests are given the opportunity to customize dishes to their preference by choosing how spicy (or mild) they would like their food to be prepared.
As the name indicates, Bangkok Balcony offers patrons a unique bird’s eye view of bustling Forbes Avenue with its sloped, floor to ceiling plate glass windows. The charming, cozy interior is filled with glimmering golden Thai artwork and sculptures, which stand out against the restaurants rich red walls and wooden fixtures.
Bangkok Balcony is committed to a large number of sustainable practices. Among the highlights of their sustainability profile include recycling materials with Road Runner Recycling and recycling used cooking oils with Buffalo Biodiesel. They buy food in bulk to eliminate paper and individually wrapped food packaging. As is the standard in Thai cooking, they practice root-to-stem and nose-to-tail cooking by utilizing as much of the product as possible. They also use Energy Star appliances and make use of their natural lighting, a foyer entrance for energy efficiency, and motion sensor lighting in restrooms to cut down on unnecessary wasted energy.
Bangkok Balcony houses Thai students through the J-1 Visa program to teach them culinary skills, and they partner with local organizations such as the Jewish Community Center, Community College of Allegheny County, Community Day School, and Uncover Squirrel Hill to help raise funds and educate the community about nutrition and Thai food.
